The Fight is On

Ice Like Fire

Ice Like Fire

by Sara Raasch

Young Adult series (book #2)

High Fantasy

It’s been three months since the Winterians were freed and Spring’s king, Angra, disappeared—thanks largely to the help of Cordell.

Meira just wants her people to be safe. When Cordellan debt forces the Winterians to dig their mines for payment, they unearth something powerful and possibly dangerous: Primoria’s lost chasm of magic. Theron sees this find as an opportunity—with this much magic, the world can finally stand against threats like Angra. But Meira fears the danger the chasm poses—the last time the world had access to so much magic, it spawned the Decay. So when the king of Cordell orders the two on a mission across the kingdoms of Primoria to discover the chasm’s secrets, Meira plans to use the trip to garner support to keep the chasm shut and Winter safe—even if it means clashing with Theron. But can she do so without endangering the people she loves?

Mather just wants to be free. The horrors inflicted on the Winterians hang fresh and raw in Januari—leaving Winter vulnerable to Cordell’s growing oppression. When Meira leaves to search for allies, he decides to take Winter’s security into his own hands. Can he rebuild his broken kingdom and protect them from new threats?

As the web of power and deception weaves tighter, Theron fights for magic, Mather fights for freedom—and Meira starts to wonder if she should be fighting not just for Winter, but for the world.

Goodreads

I devoured this book. I am a slow reader even when with books I love but lately some books I just fly through and Ice Lie Fire was one of them.
So this book takes place not to long after the events in Snow Like Ashes. The Winter kingdom is trying to rebuild and heal after being enslaved for more than a decade and Meira is trying to be more of the queen everyone wants her to be than who she actually is. She is adjusting and trying really hard to be a good queen but it’s hard for her. Things feel unsettled to Meira and she worries that things aren’t over and she is right.
This book was more about kingdom politics and a magical scavenger hunt than about the action. However don’t let that fool you because when stuff goes down you get a far amount of action. I love how everything weaved together in the story, how things connected that Meira didn’t see and I as a reader going along with didn’t realize it either.
The Meira Mather Theron love triangle continues and I will admit that in Snow Like Ashes I was team Mather then team Theron and now I am back to team Mather because a lot of unexpected turns happened in this book. Things that I didn’t see happening in the story and was kinda amazed that Sara decided she was going to take that route in the story line.
If you liked Snow Like Ashes then you will want to continue the story in Ice Like Fire. There is magic, action, love, heartbreak and loss, murder, mystery, a love triangle, a magical scavenger hunt and an evil hell bent on taking over the world. I The question on my mind is how will Meira stop the evil and what will she have to sacrifice. I love the story Sara has crafted and I can’t wait to see how it ends in Frost Like Night.

  1. I’m so glad to know that you have enjoyed this book, I started it last month and I haven”t finished it yet, it’s getting a bit difficult for me to get into, maybe because I have been somewhat distracted but I’ll try again this month and hope to get hooked because I really love this world 😊

    1. It does go a little slow, for some reason that doesn’t bother me with this book but I can see how it might put some readers off. However it is action-packed towards the end, I mean it gets really good.
