Tales from the Kingdom #3
Adult, Fairytale Retelling
Beauty is a beautifully illustrated retelling of the Sleeping Beauty story which takes all the elements of the classic fairytale that we love (the handsome prince, the ancient curse, the sleeping girl and, of course, the haunting castle) and puts a modern spin on the characters, their motives and their desires. It’s fun, contemporary, sexy, and perfect for fans of ONCE UPON A TIME, GRIMM, SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN and more.
Beauty is the last tale told in the Tales from the Kingdom series. Beauty is exactly like the previous books in the series, it hold very similar to old fairytales with a sensual twist and darkness.
This story had a lot more references to other fairytales which made it a lot more interesting to me. The main story is based off of, Sleeping Beauty with mentions of Rapunzel, Beauty and the Beast, Little Red Riding Hood and Rumplestiltskin. The story is also woven with connecting character from the previous two stories.
I will say that I enjoyed this one a little more than the others. It was far more interesting seeing what happened to the characters before the events of the other two books, because you see Beauty is a sort of backstory for the other stories. We see how the Huntsman ended up with the prince (who is an even bigger ass than I thought) and so much more. Be warned that this book is an adult fairytale retelling.
