Supernatural Meets Fluffy YA

paranormalcy

Paranormalcy (Paranormalcy #1) by Kiersten White

Evie’s always thought of herself as a normal teenager, even though she works for the International Paranormal Containment Agency, her ex-boyfriend is a faerie, she’s falling for a shape-shifter, and she’s the only person who can see through paranormals’ glamours.

But Evie’s about to realize that she may very well be at the center of a dark faerie prophecy promising destruction to all paranormal creatures.

So much for normal.

I have never read anything by Kiersten White before but I had wanted to read Paranormalcy for a while but never got it. Book Outlet was having a sale and they had Paranormalcy so I decided to grab it and I do not regret my decision.

Turns out Paranormalcy is totally different from what I expected and not in a bad way. The story centers around a 16 year name Evie. Evie works for a government agency (IPCA) that keeps track of supernaturals. Evie isn’t normal… she has a gift that makes her absolutely unique, she been working for the IPCA since she was eight years old and before then she was in the foster care system. She face down supernaturals that the IPCA want taken in. She has grown up in this facility without any other children and no real parents, Evie is funny, quirky and kind.

When Lend, a shapeshifter gets caught breaking into the IPCA the shit hits the fan and everything is different for Evie from then on out. I love how she now has someone her own age to be around and she starts to see that maybe the IPCA aren’t the good guys when it comes to policing supernaturals. She has teenage angst moments and fights with a person she thinks of as a parent, she has her beliefs challenged and looks for the the right thing to do in all situations.

Overall 3 stars

The story was good and I the characters weren’t to bad. I will be getting the next book to see what major bad comes knocking on Evie’s door again.
